The Son and the Moon

And looking out o’er the waters
At night one cannot see
The horizon’s vast division
Of the heavens and the sea

The first ray of light braves the dark
To open the morning’s eyes
Yet without your command
The sun would not arise

And even though that sun does rise
For some all that is seen is blackened skies.
For though they live in the same world
And are in the presence of the same sun
For them it will always be night
Until to Christ they choose to come

When the sun sets
We still do not stumble in the night
For we have hope in another source
By which to see His light

And as the moon that follows the path of the sun
Is sure to reflect its light
All over the world
Breaking the night
So if we too follow the path
That the Son has set before our faces
We will find ourselves
Revolving around darkened places

And the moon if following the path of the sun
Will return everyday anew
So we will return to those darkened places
Until they call on You

Other stars may rise up in the sky
To try and catch another eye
But there is only one that burns eternally
Seen even from afar
Any other is just a dying star.

And looking out o’er the waters
Where the heavens have come down to meet the sea
The single greatest site that there could ever be
Is to witness the birth of a new dawn
On a once darkened world now free
That is gasping its first illuminated words
“I can see…I can see
