The Seer's Tower

Seer: a person endowed with profound moral and spiritual insight or knowledge; a wise person or sage who possesses intuitive powers.

Sufjan Stevens alludes to the tower of Babylon in his song "The Seer's Tower" on his album Illinoise. It is also a meaning-packed pun on the Sears Tower, which has struggled to fill its office space ever since the Sears Robuck Co. moved out, only a few years after they themselves completed it. His song title is an interesting word play on emptiness, ambition, self-righteousness, and of course how small we look from up high. A bird's eye view always makes a destination easier to find.

This photograph was taken from the Sears Tower overlooking Chicago and Lake Michigan.
